Theme: The Appropriate Conduct of a Prisoner Who Has Completed a Sentence for Genocide Crimes and How the Rwandan Community Is Prepared to Receive Them.
From May 21 to 30, 2025, DiDe Rwanda collaborated with MINUBUMWE in Nyamagabe Correctional Facility to support women who committed Genocide related crimes and are nearing sentence completion.
On May 28, DiDe’s Executive Director addressed 52 participants, guiding them on how to reintegrate peacefully into society. The session emphasized personal responsibility, reconciliation, and embracing Rwandan values of unity.
Women were encouraged to seek forgiveness, avoid retraumatizing survivors, and engage in community development as a path to transformation.Participants responded with gratitude and hope, expressing a renewed sense of purpose. They acknowledged the need to rebuild trust with their families and communities and voiced a collective appeal to be accepted as contributors to Rwanda’s future.
DiDe Rwanda recommended continued support, dialogue facilitation, and inclusive reintegration strategies involving community leaders, survivors, and psychosocial professionals. The conference marked a meaningful step toward healing, dignity restoration, and sustainable national unity.
